Special Items:
Equipped from the second sub-menu, the three special items will be found after you defeat certain bosses. The first item creates a platform which rises up and can carry Mega Man to higher areas. The second item creates a flying sled which will fly straight ahead and can carry Mega Man over dangerous areas. The third item creates a bouncing platform which will climb up a wall if it hits one and can carry Mega Man up large walls.

You can turn the stars in the backgrounds of the Robot Masters display screens into birds by holding down the A button as you select them before then. The other possible way to defeat Wood Man is to use  Crash Bomb's ability to go through his Leaf Shield or have it detonate on his Leaf Shield and drain his health that way.

Another way to make Quick Man simpler to defeat is to use one of the few special weapons that bounce off of him to stun him for a few seconds and use that short time to attack him.If you look closely at the background right before going through the first gate into fight against Crash Man, that you'll also see the Little Dipper in the stage.
